UNM conducting national search for dean of engineering: UNM Newsroom

College of New Mexico Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs James Holloway has declared the launch of a national look for for a new dean of the School of Engineering.

Christos Christodoulou will be devoting a lot more time to training and exploration.

The chosen applicant will consider more than management of the School from Christos Christodoulou, who has been dean considering the fact that July 2017. Holloway explained that Christodoulou has graciously agreed to carry on as dean right until the new dean comes, anticipated to be January 2023. Christodoulou will be devoting far more time to instructing and investigate as a distinguished professor in the Office of Electrical and Personal computer Engineering and pursuing entrepreneurial pursuits.

Right before staying chosen as dean, Christodoulou was affiliate dean for investigate in the School of Engineering, was a founder and director of COSMIAC, and was chair of the Office of Electrical and Laptop Engineering. He joined UNM in 1999, coming from the College of Central Florida.

“I thank Christos for his many decades of energetic and passionate management of the College of Engineering,” Holloway mentioned. “His contributions to UNM have been several, and he will proceed to make an effect by means of his educating, mentorship and analysis.” 

The new dean will keep the title of Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing, which is the initial and only endowed deanship posture at UNM.

Ellen Fisher, UNM vice president for exploration and a professor of chemistry, is chair of the lookup advisory committee. 

“This is an exceptionally thrilling time for the Faculty of Engineering, and for UNM,” Fisher reported. “I am thrilled to be foremost this search and interacting with the numerous blend of workers, faculty, pupils, alumni and so a lot of many others who are committed to matching this strong, lively faculty with an equally robust, energetic chief to guideline it into bold, new endeavors.”

Lookup company Isaacson, Miller has been tapped to coordinate the nationwide lookup. For the duration of the week of April 18, a collection of listening sessions will be held on Zoom with a variety of constituencies across campus, such as faculty, college students, staff and the dean’s Sector and Innovation advisory board to assist understand features that are critical in a new dean. This feed-back will be applied to develop the work description, referred to as an Prospect and Problems Profile, which will posted on the UNM Executive Search web page in early May.

Holloway explained 3 to four candidates will be picked as finalists and will be invited to campus for open boards in August, with the new dean remaining selected in September.
